In the novel Fang, the main conflict is the group struggling to get by with food and shelter. The problem started by migrating to Africa to help others in need. I know this as it states "Flying over Africa..we were on a mission to do good"(1). The setting explains how they are sleeping in tents. This is a conflict as it reveals how they must live in order to help others and do good in Africa. The problem affects the flock as they have limited food and water ,evidence for this from the text states " the group is eating slop out there"(48). Maximum is reacting to this by accepting that helping and doing good deeds requires hard work and struggle. Maximum is further encouraged to help as it reveals of the people they help work. The conflict is external as it has to do with the condition of the area. The conflict is situational.

In the novel Fang, The main characters are Maximum, Fang, and Jeanne. Maximum is the point of view in the story, Fang is Maximum's closest friend who watches over "the flock", Jeanne is a child who has the ability to heal and is one the main bird kids in the flock. Maximum is the main character as the story is in her point of view. Fang is Maximums best friend as they have been together for their entire lives and evidence for this is when Maximum states " We have been through everything together"(20). Jeanne is important as she heals wounds when a flock member gets wounded as it states " As Jeanne ran her finger slowly along the bloody slash, pressing as she went, it closed up right before my eyes. She had healed herself"(16). Maximum is static as she is always busy with keeping the flock together and making sure she never makes a wrong decision that could be catastrophic. Fang is also static as it states in the book he will pass away soon and he also becomes silent further into the chapters. Jeanne is dynamic as her ability to heal requires her to be close the the flock in times of need. |
